Permit To Work Officer – Basra, Iraq

About the role

Wood is seeking a Permit To Work Officer for its Iraq Business Unit, based in Basra. The role is full‑time, on‑site and includes occasional travel to support project sites across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Review, issue and close permits for all work types, including electrical isolation, work at height and confined‑space entry.
• Maintain a centralized log of active, pending and closed permits and manage the electronic permit (E‑permit) database.
• Ensure permits are complete, accurate and approved by the customer before work commences.
• Attach and verify risk assessments and method statements, confirming they are understood by the work team.
• Coordinate with project teams and conduct inspections to verify compliance with permit conditions.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Permit To Work Officer or in a similar permit‑management role.
• Familiarity with oil & gas operations and safety regulations in Iraq.
• Ability to work on‑site in Basra and travel as required.
