Assistant Fire Chief (Training)

About the role

The Assistant Fire Chief (Training) supports the Deputy Fire Chief in Iraq, overseeing the fire department’s training and safety programs. This senior position ensures compliance with Army regulations, DoD instructions, and NFPA standards while developing and delivering effective training for fire and emergency services personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and manage the department’s annual training program in line with AR 420-1, DoDI 6055.06 and NFPA standards.
• Conduct needs analyses using response data to create targeted training curricula and lesson plans.
• Evaluate training effectiveness and administer the DoD firefighter certification program.
• Serve as Safety Officer or perform fire‑ground/emergency management duties as required.
• Coordinate training efforts with Army agencies, local emergency responders and shift personnel.
• Provide instruction to firefighters, Army personnel and civilians and foster community engagement.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a Common Access Card (CAC).
• High school diploma (minimum); Associate’s degree in Fire Science preferred.
• Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor III, Fire Inspector II, and Hazard certifications.
• One year of related experience may substitute for one year of education if a degree is required.

Required skills

• Knowledge of NFPA 1500 fire department safety standards.
• Familiarity with AR 420-1, DoDI 6055.06 and related Army fire regulations.
• Fire Officer III certification.
• Fire Instructor III certification.
• Fire Inspector II certification.
