Senior Operations and Compliance Auditor

About the role

The National Bank of Iraq is looking for a Senior Operations and Compliance Auditor to join its Internal Audit Division. This position is responsible for safeguarding the bank’s operations by ensuring strict adherence to regulatory, internal, and risk‑management standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct audits across all bank operations, departments, subsidiaries, and branches to verify compliance with laws, Central Bank regulations, and internal policies.
• Evaluate controls related to letters of credit, guarantees, and anti‑money‑laundering (AML) processes, identifying risks, weaknesses, or misuse of authority.
• Follow up on corrective actions, ensuring full implementation of audit recommendations.
• Review the adequacy of controls on new systems, banking documents, and records, confirming proper safeguarding and documentation practices.
• Prepare audit working papers, document findings, and draft preliminary audit reports.
• Supervise junior auditors, providing guidance on working papers, reports, and audit system entries (TeamMate).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Banking, or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of professional experience in internal auditing of operations and compliance (AML and sanctions) or equivalent banking compliance work.
• Specialized training in compliance, AML, and trade‑finance instruments (letters of credit, guarantees).
• Preferred certifications: CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) or CAMS (Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialist).
• Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and spoken.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
• Experience using the TeamMate audit management system.
