Security Assistance Mentor & Cultural Advisor for Iraqi MoD & MoPA

About the role

The Security Assistance Mentor and Cultural Advisor (SAMA) will support the Iraqi Ministry of Defense (MoD) and Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs (MoPA) in enhancing the capability of the Iraqi Security Forces. The role focuses on policy development, force development, procurement, training management and integration across ministries.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement policies, processes and procedures for MoD, MoPA and Counter Terrorism Service (CTS).
• Improve integration and synchronization between MoD, MoPA, CTS and other Iraqi governmental and societal institutions.
• Manage operational and administrative planning, including schedules, suspense dates and strategic plans.
• Design leader‑engagement strategies to increase advisor effectiveness and support US‑MILGP‑Iraq capabilities.
• Prepare and deliver briefings to senior military officials on staff, systems, programs and transition progress.
• Support areas such as administration, force development, procurement, contracting, training management, public affairs, logistics, personnel management, communications, planning, infrastructure, intelligence and executive development.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen with an active Secret security clearance.
• Fluent in Arabic and Kurdish.
• Current working knowledge of the Iraqi MoD organizational structure and operations.
• Strategic experience with U.S. Forces in Iraq since 2011, either as a civilian contractor or uniformed service member.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s in Middle Eastern Studies/Culture preferred).
• At least one year of experience working with Iraqi MoD or defense officials.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
