Iraqi Ministry of Defense Advisor – Full-Time, Arabic, US Citizen

About the role

The Hoplite Group is seeking an experienced Advisor to support USMILGP‑I in Baghdad. The Advisor will provide strategic‑level advice, coaching, mentoring, training and liaison support to senior leaders of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver strategic advice and mentorship to senior Iraqi Ministry of Defense officials.
• Support U.S. security cooperation objectives by strengthening defense institutions and improving ministry governance.
• Enhance organizational effectiveness and develop sustainable defense management capabilities.
• Provide long‑term institutional advising, including training and liaison functions.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen with an active Secret security clearance.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• Fluent in English and Arabic.
• Thorough understanding of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense’s organization, functions, processes, and operations.
• Strategic‑level experience supporting U.S. Forces in Iraq since 2011, either as a uniformed service member or civilian contractor.
• Experience serving as a strategic advisor, mentor, trainer, coach, or liaison to senior military officers or government officials.
• Knowledge of civil‑military relations, democratic governance, and defense institution building.
• Ability to assess organizational performance and develop practical recommendations.
• Proven ability to build productive relationships with senior Iraqi military leaders, government officials, U.S. personnel, and multinational partners.
• Experience preparing executive‑level reports, assessments, briefings, and recommendations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
