Founding Principal

About the role

The Founding Principal will lead the creation and launch of GEMS American International School, a new K‑12 American curriculum school in Baghdad, scheduled to open in September 2027. This senior leadership role involves shaping the school’s vision, culture, systems and community from the ground up.

Key responsibilities

• Establish a clear educational vision aligned with GEMS’ commitment to excellence.
• Lead all pre‑opening activities, including recruitment, enrolment growth and operational planning.
• Build and develop an outstanding team of educators and leaders.
• Foster a culture focused on academic excellence, student wellbeing and safeguarding.
• Create an inclusive school community for students, families and staff.
• Drive enrolment growth and enhance the school’s reputation locally and regionally.
• Implement a rigorous American curriculum from KG1 to Grade 12.
• Collaborate with GSM and local stakeholders to deliver a world‑class educational experience.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a senior school leader, preferably with experience launching new schools.
• Strong ability to design and execute strategic educational plans.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Commitment to high standards of student wellbeing, safeguarding and inclusive education.
