Financial Controller

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and detail‑oriented Financial Controller to lead the Finance Department of a hotel that is part of the Accor network in Baghdad, Iraq. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will be responsible for driving financial excellence across all operations and supporting strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Finance Department, overseeing all financial operations and ensuring efficient execution of processes.
• Prepare accurate weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports that provide clear insights into performance.
• Develop and manage comprehensive budgets, forecasts and cash‑flow projections to support strategic planning.
• Produce detailed management accounts and owner reports with transparent analysis and actionable recommendations.
• Ensure full compliance with Iraqi taxation regulations, financial reporting standards and statutory obligations.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll administration and banking functions.
• Monitor and strengthen internal controls, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with department leaders to analyse performance, implement cost‑control measures and drive profitability.
• Manage annual budgets, external audits and capital‑expenditure projects.
• Build, mentor and develop the Finance team, fostering a collaborative work environment.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field.
• Minimum five years of progressive experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or senior finance role.
• Strong expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and management accounting.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Iraqi taxation laws, financial reporting standards and statutory requirements.
