Financial Controller – Energy Sector

About the role

The Financial Controller will lead the financial control and governance framework for a leading energy joint venture operating in gas processing and energy markets. Reporting to senior leadership, the role ensures compliance with internal and external regulations, supports business objectives, and drives risk‑based controls across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a robust, risk‑based financial control framework and ensure compliance with applicable laws and accounting standards.
• Provide financial insight, advice and decision support to senior leadership and lead change initiatives to improve quality, performance and cost efficiency.
• Oversee financial policies, standards and controls across accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, inventory and general accounting.
• Monitor assets under construction, manage bank and balance‑sheet reconciliations, and maintain the Manual of Authority.
• Lead investigations of business control incidents, address audit findings and manage external audits and statutory reporting.
• Govern SAP financial master data, supervise risk and assurance activities and coordinate with tax advisers to ensure fiscal compliance.
• Lead, develop and motivate the finance control team, setting objectives aligned with business priorities.

Required profile

• Professional proficiency in Arabic for interactions with Iraqi authorities, regulators and government bodies.
• Extensive experience in financial control, governance and risk management within a large, complex organisation.
• Strong knowledge of accounting standards, tax regulations and audit processes.
• Proven ability to lead change, coach staff and build finance capability across multiple locations.
