AP Accountant – Oil & Gas (Basra, Iraq)

About the role

Geo-Jade Petroleum is looking for an experienced Accounts Payable (AP) Accountant to join the Finance Department on a rotation basis in Basra, Iraq. The role supports the South Basra Integrated Project by managing the full procure‑to‑pay cycle for upstream, midstream and downstream operations.

Key responsibilities

• Process and verify vendor invoices, matching them to purchase orders, service entry sheets and goods received notes.
• Validate project codes, cost centres and GL allocations; route invoices for technical and commercial sign‑off.
• Apply Iraqi tax regulations, including withholding tax, and verify vendor onboarding documents such as commercial registration and tax IDs.
• Prepare payment runs, coordinate with treasury for cash‑flow planning, and reconcile monthly vendor statements.
• Post month‑end accruals for oilfield services and materials not yet billed.
• Support internal and external audits by providing complete paper and digital trails.
• Monitor aging reports, prevent duplicate billing and manage credit notes.
• Assist user departments with spend analysis and benchmarking against industry peers.
• Print and archive monthly journal entries with supporting documentation.

Required profile

• 3–7 years of solid Accounts Payable experience in the Oil & Gas sector.
• Strong knowledge of Iraqi tax rules and vendor onboarding requirements.
• Familiarity with Joint Operating Agreement (JOA) accounting guidelines.
• Experience preparing payment schedules and performing vendor reconciliations.
• Ability to support audit processes and produce accurate financial documentation.
