Facilities Surveillance Engineer - Oil & Gas

About the role

The Facilities Surveillance Engineer works in the Surface Technical department at the Basra field operations office, conducting daily production surveillance across production facilities against approved KPIs. The role covers monitoring crude oil processing and produced water treatment parameters, working with Operations and Maintenance teams on reliability improvements, and resolving process bottlenecks.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine facility and process monitoring and support daily production and water injection targets while minimizing unplanned downtime.
• Provide technical support for production troubleshooting and debottlenecking, and lead production enhancement and water injection optimization initiatives.
• Perform Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for production issues and prepare investigation reports.
• Take part in risk assessment studies such as HAZOP, HAZID and SIL, and support safe and reliable facility operation.
• Develop Scope of Work documents for modification projects, review contractor technical submissions, and update and redline engineering documentation including P&IDs and PFDs.
• Support the Management of Change (MOC) process and assess the impact of modifications on process safety.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Oil & Gas Surface Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 7+ years of experience in facilities engineering, process engineering, production operations, surveillance, troubleshooting and debottlenecking; less experienced candidates may be considered with exceptional technical ability.
• Experience in HAZOP, HAZID and SIL studies.
• Fluent English, written and spoken.

Required skills

• Knowledge of crude oil production and processing equipment such as separators, desalters and heat exchangers.
• Familiarity with SCADA systems, PI System, production surveillance software and operational reporting tools.
• Understanding of industry standards for onshore oil and gas processing facilities.
