Country Manager - Iraq Joint Office

About the role

The Danish Red Cross, together with the German and Norwegian Red Cross societies, is seeking an experienced humanitarian leader to serve as Country Manager for the newly established Iraq Joint Office in Baghdad. The role provides strategic leadership across all Joint Office activities and represents the collective engagement of the three National Societies in Iraq.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and strategic direction to the Iraq Joint Office on behalf of the Danish, German and Norwegian Red Cross societies.
• Maintain a cooperative working relationship with the Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS), offering guidance on strategic development, capacity building, quality assurance, management, reporting and finance.
• Ensure effective implementation of the Joint Office governance framework and agreed collaboration mechanisms.
• Organise and facilitate Steering Committee meetings, develop presentations and act as a bridge to bring expertise from the three partners as requested by IRCS.
• Report to the Steering Committee while remaining under the duty of care and security management of the contract‑holding National Society.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in humanitarian or development contexts, preferably in Iraq or similar environments.
• Strong ability to coordinate multi‑partner initiatives and manage relationships with national societies and local authorities.
• Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, governance, capacity development, and financial oversight.
• Excellent communication and diplomatic skills to represent the Joint Office at national and international levels.
