Contracts Associate

About the role

The Contracts Associate will support the National Bank of Iraq by managing all legal aspects of the bank’s contracts and litigation. Working closely with the Administrative Officer, the role ensures the bank’s interests are protected in courts, negotiations and contractual agreements.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the bank in filed lawsuits and all legal matters as an authorized representative.
• Negotiate settlements with individuals or entities involved in legal cases, in the presence of the Administrative Officer.
• Follow up on cases concerning bank customers before civil courts and quasi‑judicial committees, seeking acceptable solutions for credit facilities.
• Review and analyse legal documentation related to cases and provide appropriate legal advice.
• Maintain and update all legal records, files and data in line with procedures, ensuring confidentiality.
• Review lease agreements from a legal perspective, handle notarisation/authentication and verify penalty clauses.
• Attend hearings before civil and criminal courts as scheduled, obtaining prior approval for any postponements.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the direct supervisor.

Required profile

• Authorized legal representative for the bank.
• Ability to negotiate mutually beneficial settlements.
• Strong confidentiality mindset, ensuring no unauthorized disclosure of case details.
• Capability to attend and represent the bank in civil and criminal court hearings.
• Experience reviewing lease agreements and contractual penalty clauses.
