Category Manager – Fresh Food

About the role

The Category Manager – Fresh Food will lead the performance of Baly’s fresh food category within its grocery business, overseeing assortment, supplier relationships, pricing, promotions and overall growth.

Key responsibilities

• Own sales, margin, availability, assortment and overall commercial performance of the Fresh Food category.
• Develop and optimise the fresh food assortment based on customer demand, store locations, product performance and market trends.
• Manage the full SKU lifecycle, including new product introductions, rationalisation, delisting and range optimisation.
• Source and onboard fresh food suppliers, negotiating costs, margins, payment terms, rebates and commercial agreements.
• Monitor supplier performance – availability, fill rates, delivery reliability, lead times, quality and commercial results.
• Develop backup sourcing plans to minimise supply disruptions and stock‑outs.
• Design pricing and promotional strategies while maintaining competitiveness and healthy margins.
• Coordinate promotional calendars and supplier‑funded campaigns.
• Work with Supply Chain and Store Operations to ensure product availability, accurate forecasting, replenishment and proper storage conditions.
• Track fresh food availability, waste, expiry and quality, taking corrective actions as needed.
• Maintain accurate product master data, costs, prices and supplier information across systems.
• Collaborate with Product, Growth and Marketing teams to improve visibility, merchandising and promotional performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Supply Chain or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience in FMCG, grocery, retail buying or category management.
• Strong experience managing fresh‑food, short‑shelf‑life products.
• Proven negotiation skills with suppliers on pricing, margins, trade terms and promotions.
