Buyer – Local Purchasing Specialist

About the role

The Buyer will manage local purchasing activities for Sardar Group of Companies in Baghdad, sourcing goods and services, obtaining quotations, and ensuring timely delivery to support business operations.

Key responsibilities

• Execute approved purchase requests through direct market purchasing and supplier engagement.
• Visit suppliers, markets, showrooms, and service providers to source goods and collect quotations.
• Identify new suppliers and products that meet company requirements.
• Negotiate prices, delivery terms, and payment conditions to achieve best value.
• Submit collected quotations to the procurement team for evaluation and approval.
• Follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and coordinate transportation when required.
• Verify quantities, specifications, and quality of purchased items before receipt.
• Assist in resolving issues related to product quality, shortages, damages, or delays.
• Monitor market prices and report significant changes or cost‑saving opportunities.
• Maintain positive relationships with suppliers and ensure compliance with procurement policies.
• Coordinate with warehouses and requesting departments regarding deliveries.
• Support supplier registration and market research activities.
• Prepare regular updates on purchase status and market activities.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, sales or a related area.
• Good knowledge of local markets and suppliers in Iraq.
• Strong negotiation and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple purchase requests.
• Valid driving licence preferred and willingness to travel frequently.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
