Advocacy and Communications Specialist (Fixed‑Term)

About the role

UNICEF Iraq is seeking an experienced Advocacy and Communications Specialist to lead its advocacy and communication efforts. Reporting to the Representative, you will supervise a small team and coordinate public advocacy strategies that promote children’s and women’s rights across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a public advocacy strategy aligned with UNICEF’s programme outcomes and global communication priorities.
• Manage media relations, including press releases, interviews, and outreach to national and international outlets.
• Network with government agencies, NGOs, donors, and other stakeholders to build partnerships and amplify UNICEF’s message.
• Coordinate humanitarian and disaster‑risk‑reduction advocacy initiatives.
• Monitor, evaluate, and report on the impact of advocacy activities.
• Provide capacity‑building support and mentorship to the Communication Officer and Communication Associate.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Social Sciences or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in communication, media, international development, humanitarian assistance or advocacy.
• Proven supervisory experience.
• Fluent in English and Arabic (both written and spoken).
