Advocacy and Communications Specialist (Fixed‑Term) – Baghdad

About the role

UNICEF Iraq is seeking an experienced Advocacy and Communications Specialist to lead its advocacy and communication section in Baghdad. Reporting to the Representative, you will supervise a Communication Officer and a Communication Associate while driving public advocacy initiatives that promote children’s and women’s rights.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor public advocacy strategies aligned with programme outcomes.
• Coordinate communication and media relations activities to raise awareness of UNICEF’s mission.
• Lead networking efforts with partners, donors, and government entities.
• Align national advocacy work with regional and global campaigns, including disaster risk reduction and humanitarian response.
• Oversee monitoring, evaluation and reporting of advocacy impact.
• Manage and mentor the communications team, fostering capacity building.
• Engage stakeholders and build strategic communication alliances.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Social Sciences or related fields.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in communication, media, international development, humanitarian assistance or advocacy.
• Proven supervisory experience and strategic thinking abilities.
• Fluent in English and Arabic.
