Accountant – Project in Southern Iraq

About the role

You will manage day‑to‑day accounting for a large energy project located at the North Rumaila site near Basra, Iraq. Working under the Head Accountant, you will ensure the books are accurate, timely, and ready for audit.

Key responsibilities

• Record financial transactions, maintain the general ledger and allocate costs across project cost centres.
• Process supplier invoices, verify supporting documents, run payment cycles and keep AP/AR ledgers up‑to‑date.
• Maintain daily cash and bank records, perform reconciliations and manage on‑site petty cash with full documentation.
• Support monthly payroll processing in coordination with HR and external payroll providers.
• Ensure compliance with Iraqi statutory requirements (PIT, SSO, WHT, Stamp Duty) and prepare documentation for audits and tax filings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Full professional proficiency in English and Arabic (written and spoken).
• Experience in oil & gas, energy, construction or large industrial projects is a plus.
• Previous work experience in Iraq and familiarity with Iraqi tax regulations are advantageous.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel for reconciliations, schedules and reporting.
• Experience with ERP or accounting software such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics or QuickBooks.
