Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented and analytical Accountant to join our team in Baghdad, Iraq. In this role you will manage financial records, prepare accurate financial statements, and ensure compliance with Iraqi accounting regulations and tax requirements. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support the organization’s financial goals and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, record, and maintain accurate financial transactions and account entries in accordance with GAAP and IFRS.
• Reconcile bank statements, general ledger accounts, and subsidiary ledgers to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
• Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and schedules for management and external stakeholders.
• Analyze financial data and variances to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement.
• Ensure compliance with Iraqi accounting regulations, tax laws, and statutory reporting requirements.
• Assist in the preparation of tax returns and maintain documentation for audit purposes.
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing and payment reconciliation.
• Support the annual audit process by coordinating with external auditors and providing necessary documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and IFRS standards.
• Excellent understanding of internal controls, audit procedures, and risk management.
• Fluent English; Arabic language skills are highly valued.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial modeling capabilities.
• In‑depth knowledge of GAAP and IFRS.
• Experience with internal controls and audit procedures.
