About the role

The Shock Responsive & Adaptive Social Protection (SRASP) Coordinator will support the World Food Programme’s effort to strengthen Iraq’s social protection and disaster risk management systems. Working closely with government counterparts and UN partners, the coordinator will help design, integrate and operationalise shock‑responsive mechanisms that reach vulnerable populations, including IDPs, returnees and persons with disabilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison with Iraqi government agencies on social protection, disaster risk management (DRM) and early warning systems.
  • Coordinate the SRASP Task Force and assist in drafting legal and financial frameworks.
  • Develop technical roadmaps, operational protocols and capacity‑building plans for SRASP implementation.
  • Integrate SRASP into the Unified Registry to improve targeting, registration and delivery of cash‑based transfers.
  • Promote digital solutions that enhance efficiency, accountability and responsiveness of social protection programmes.
  • Ensure nutrition‑sensitive approaches are embedded in SRASP design and delivery.
  • Support the development of disaster risk financing and anticipatory action frameworks.
  • Align national systems with WFP preparedness and response initiatives through coordination with WFP teams and partners.

Required profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, social protection, economics, DRM or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in social protection, emergency preparedness or adaptive systems.
  • Proven experience in SRASP design, implementation or evaluation.
  • Strong knowledge of Iraq’s institutional landscape and ongoing social protection reforms.
  • Experience coordinating with government and multi‑stakeholder partners.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and writing abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in multicultural teams under pressure.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic; Kurdish is an asset.
