About the role
A global multi-energy company operating large-scale refining and petrochemical facilities is looking for a Senior Welding Engineer Services to act as its welding subject matter expert for the NWP package. The role provides technical leadership and ensures the highest standards of welding excellence across all project phases, based in Basra, Iraq.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the review and approval of welding deliverables such as Welding Execution Plans, WPS, WPQR/PQR, repair procedures and consumable specifications.
- Witness and validate WPQT, welding trials and mechanical testing programmes.
- Advise on complex welding issues including dissimilar materials, repairs, automatic welding, tie-ins and fitness-for-service assessments.
- Act as company welding authority in technical evaluations, audits and contractor assessments, and coordinate with EPC contractors and vendors.
- Monitor welding execution on site (fit-up, parameters, consumables, heat input, workmanship) and coordinate with QC, NDE and construction teams against approved ITPs.
- Review welder qualifications, resolve technical queries, deviation requests and non-conformances, and assess contractor welding performance.
- Maintain welding documentation and records for the Project Quality Dossier and report regularly to the NWP Quality Superintendent.
Required profile
- Minimum 20 years of experience in Oil & Gas projects, with at least 15 years in welding engineering, fabrication and construction.
- International Welding Engineer (IWE) certification mandatory.
- Fluent English; Chinese or Arabic is a plus.
- 28x28 schedule, 24-month mission, extendable.
Required skills
- Pipelines, flowlines, pressure piping and structural fabrication, including automatic welding and mechanized GTAW/GMAW.
- Welding metallurgy, fracture mechanics, consumables, heat input and repair methods.
- Engineering Critical Assessment (ECA) and pipeline codes (API 1104, ASME, DNV).
- TotalEnergies GS (PLR, PVV) and field supervision.
