Programme Policy Officer – Shock Responsive & Adaptive Social Protection

About the role

The World Food Programme is seeking a Programme Policy Officer to support the Shock Responsive and Adaptive Social Protection (SRASP) programme in Iraq. Based in Baghdad, the officer will work within the Social Protection unit to help governments design and implement social protection measures that mitigate the impacts of shocks such as pandemics, conflicts and climate‑related events.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the development and adaptation of SRASP policies and programmes in line with WFP standards.
• Collaborate with Iraqi government ministries and local partners to integrate social protection interventions into national systems.
• Conduct policy analysis, prepare briefing notes and contribute to programme reports.
• Monitor programme implementation, identify gaps and propose corrective actions.
• Support knowledge sharing and capacity‑building activities for stakeholders.

Required profile

• University degree in social sciences, economics, public policy or a related field.
• Relevant experience in social protection, humanitarian assistance or development programmes.
• Familiarity with government coordination mechanisms in Iraq or similar contexts.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing abilities.
