Programme Policy Officer – School Feeding (Consultant)

About the role

The World Food Programme is seeking a Programme Policy Officer to lead the design and pilot of a Home‑Grown School Feeding (HGSF) model in Iraq. This 11‑month consultancy will be based remotely, with periodic travel to Iraq to support the Government’s school feeding revitalisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and pilot a government‑owned healthy kitchen model for school feeding.
• Provide policy analysis and recommendations to strengthen national social protection and human capital systems.
• Coordinate with Iraqi government officials and WFP teams to ensure operational feasibility and cost‑effectiveness.
• Monitor pilot implementation, collect data, and produce evidence‑based reports to inform scalability.
• Contribute to the development of guidelines and best‑practice documentation for future school feeding programmes.

Required profile

• Relevant academic degree in social protection, nutrition, education, public policy or a related field.
• Professional experience in school feeding, social protection or humanitarian programme design.
• Understanding of the Iraqi context and ability to travel to Iraq on a regular basis.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing skills.
