Education Officer (Fixed-Term) – Basrah, Iraq

About the role

UNICEF is seeking an Education Officer to support the design, implementation and monitoring of education programmes in Basrah, Iraq. Reporting to the Chief of Field Office, the incumbent will work across the full programme cycle, from planning to results delivery, ensuring that children’s right to quality education is upheld in humanitarian and development contexts.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the development of education project proposals, work plans and budgets.
• Coordinate programme implementation, monitor progress and ensure timely reporting.
• Provide technical guidance on education governance, early childhood education, non‑formal learning and data management.
• Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, NGOs and community groups.
• Contribute to knowledge management, innovation and capacity‑building initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in education programme management, humanitarian assistance or related areas.
• Fluency in English and Arabic.
• Experience in education emergencies, UN‑system work or fragile settings is an asset.

Required skills

• Strong analytical and reporting abilities.
• Experience with education data collection and monitoring tools.
• Ability to develop partnerships and coordinate multi‑stakeholder activities.
