First-Year Advising Center Manager

About the role

The American University of Iraq, Baghdad (AUIB) seeks a dynamic manager to lead its First‑Year Undergraduate Advising Program. This senior position will shape advising policies, supervise daily center operations, and drive student‑success initiatives that improve retention and academic achievement.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve the First‑Year Advising Program, establishing policies, procedures, and assessment practices.
• Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate First‑Year Advisors; manage caseload assignments and ensure consistent advising practices.
• Lead institutional efforts to boost first‑year retention by monitoring success indicators, creating intervention strategies, and coordinating referrals to support services.
• Design and manage an early‑alert system, partnering with faculty, IT, and the Registrar to identify and support at‑risk students.
• Collaborate with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, the English Language Academy, the Registrar, and academic colleges on orientation, transition initiatives, and student‑success committees.
• Establish key performance indicators, analyze retention data, and recommend improvements to advising practices, staffing, and technology.

Required profile

• Proven ability to lead, supervise, and develop advising staff.
• Experience building and continuously improving a comprehensive advising program in higher education.
• Strong focus on student success, retention, and proactive advising.
