Employee Relations Specialist

About the role

The Employee Relations Specialist will work closely with the Human Resources team on a daily basis to manage employee conflicts, ensure fair disciplinary processes, and maintain strong, trust‑based relationships between the company and its workforce in Basra, Iraq.

Key responsibilities

• Proactively manage and resolve employee relations issues, grievances and workplace conflicts in a fair, timely and confidential manner.
• Conduct interviews with employees to gather insights on work environment, supervision and management practices.
• Gather and analyse feedback on morale, motivation, engagement and productivity, recommending improvement actions.
• Investigate complaints related to absenteeism, misconduct or performance and ensure disciplinary actions follow company procedures, internal policies and Iraqi Labour Law.
• Prepare and issue disciplinary notices, including warning and termination letters, ensuring procedural fairness and proper documentation.
• Communicate company rules, regulations, policies and procedures clearly to employees, promoting compliance and awareness of employee rights.
• Act as liaison with governmental authorities such as labour departments, inspection offices, police, courts and other relevant agencies to resolve employee‑related issues.

Required profile

• Iraqi national with at least 10 years of solid experience in the oil & gas sector.
• Proven track record in handling employee relations, grievances and disciplinary processes.
• Strong knowledge of Iraqi Labour Law and local labour regulations.
• Experience acting as a liaison with labour authorities, inspection offices, police and courts.
