Director of Engineering

About the role

Rixos Baghdad is seeking a strategic and results‑driven Director of Engineering to join the Executive Committee. The role is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance and optimisation of all building systems, driving sustainability initiatives, managing departmental budgets and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the engineering team, fostering a culture of excellence, safety and operational efficiency.
• Oversee performance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and refrigeration systems, ensuring peak operation and minimal downtime.
• Develop, manage and control the engineering department’s budget, identifying cost‑optimisation opportunities.
• Implement energy‑efficient and green initiatives to support long‑term sustainability goals.
• Plan and execute large‑scale projects such as system upgrades, capital improvements, renovations and new installations, meeting timelines and budgets.
• Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations, health and safety standards.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in engineering within a hospitality or large‑facility environment.
• Strong strategic thinking with the ability to align engineering objectives with overall property strategy.
• Demonstrated budget management and financial control skills.
• Commitment to sustainability, energy management and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with senior stakeholders.
