NAVAIDS Technician – Balad Air Base (Iraq)

About the role

Versar Global Solutions is seeking a full‑time MET‑NAVAIDS Technician to support navigational aids, air‑traffic‑control and meteorological systems at Martyr Brigadier General Ali Flaih Air Base (Balad), Iraq. The role ensures the operational readiness of airfield navigation, landing and weather equipment for Iraqi F‑16 flight operations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance, repair, calibration, alignment and support services for NAVAIDS, ATCALS, MET and RVR systems.
• Perform advanced fault isolation and troubleshooting of ILS, VOR, TACAN, DME, NDB, AWOS/RVR and associated communications and power equipment.
• Conduct routine and unscheduled inspections, tuning, alignment, adjustment, calibration and repair of electronic, electrical and mechanical assemblies.
• Interpret technical orders, OEM manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams and engineering drawings to execute maintenance procedures.
• Support flight inspection, ground checks and certification activities, documenting performance and discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate equipment status, outage/restoration logs, preventive‑maintenance schedules and parts inventories.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen with a valid driver’s license and passport (minimum 12 months validity).
• Ability to meet medical screening requirements for deployment to Iraq and obtain access authorizations for U.S. and Iraqi military installations.
• Willingness to work shift, call‑out and extended‑hour operations in an austere, expeditionary environment.
• Minimum four years of hands‑on NAVAIDS, MET‑NAV, ATCALS or related avionics/RF electronics maintenance experience.
• Formal technical training (military technical school, FAA/DoD, associate degree or equivalent) in relevant systems.

Required skills

• Maintenance, troubleshooting, alignment and calibration of ILS, VOR, TACAN, DME and NDB systems.
• Experience with meteorological/airport weather and runway visual range equipment (AWOS/RVR).
• Strong knowledge of RF theory, analog and digital electronics, grounding and surge protection.
• Proficiency with multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, RF test sets and OEM diagnostic software.
• Ability to read and apply technical orders, OEM manuals, schematics and wiring diagrams.
