Instrument Technician

About the role

This role covers hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of field instruments in oil and gas operations, including transmitters, control valves, flow meters, analyzers and DCS/PLC systems. It also involves safety instrumented systems, hazardous-area equipment and compliance with HSE requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on field instruments, including transmitters, control valves, flow meters, analyzers and DCS/PLC systems.
• Troubleshoot instrument faults and calibrate pressure, temperature, level and flow instruments.
• Maintain and test Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), including functional safety and SIL verification.
• Inspect hazardous-area instrumentation and ensure compliance with applicable safety standards.
• Conduct instrument loop testing, installation, commissioning and turnaround maintenance.
• Maintain calibration records, work orders and equipment history using CMMS.
• Interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams and technical drawings to diagnose instrumentation issues.
• Comply with HSE requirements, including LOTO, PTW, PPE and JSA procedures.

Required profile

• Diploma in Instrumentation/Control Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 years of oil and gas instrumentation maintenance experience.
• Hands-on experience with DCS/PLC systems, preferably Yokogawa, Honeywell or Siemens.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; Arabic is an advantage.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
• ISA CCST or equivalent certification preferred; Functional Safety certification is an advantage.
• H2S awareness and confined space entry certifications preferred.

Required skills

• Instrument calibration, loop testing, 4-20 mA signals, HART protocols and control valves.
• SIS, SIL verification, hazardous-area equipment and ISA/IEC/API/ATEX standards.
• Familiarity with CMMS (SAP PM/Maximo), HART communicators and calibration tools.
