Head of Mission – Mission Closure (Erbil, Iraq)

About the role

The Head of Mission will lead the orderly closure of La Chaîne de l’Espoir’s mission in Iraq, ensuring all programme, operational, financial and administrative activities are completed efficiently and in compliance with donor and legal requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor the mission closure plan, meeting agreed timelines.
• Oversee project finalisation, reporting, donor compliance and hand‑over of activities.
• Manage staff transition, contract termination, final payments and labour‑law compliance.
• Ensure budget closure, financial reconciliation and settlement of commitments.
• Supervise disposition of assets, equipment, premises and supplies.
• Maintain security arrangements and risk mitigation throughout the closure.
• Provide regular updates to headquarters and maintain relationships with donors, partners and authorities.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in business administration, political science, international relations, project management or related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in the solidarity sector, with at least 3 years in a similar senior role for an international NGO.
• Experience in health‑sector projects is desirable.
• Strong analytical, interpersonal and diplomatic skills, with proven ability to manage donor compliance.
• Experience working in insecure or complex emergency contexts.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Package.

What we offer

• 06‑month full‑time expatriate contract (non‑accompanied).
• Monthly gross salary €3 200–€3 700.
• Monthly net per diem and living allowance €720.
• 5 days R&R after 3 months.
• Round‑trip flight at start and end of contract.
• Employer‑covered housing (100% contribution).
