Emergency Room Nurse Health Field Officer

About the role

The Emergency Room Nurse Health Field Officer supports the implementation of functional Emergency Departments in Baghdad and its surrounding areas, strengthening triage, infection prevention and control, patient flow, referrals, documentation and staff capacity. The officer provides training and bedside mentoring, supports mass casualty responses and helps integrate Emergency Department and pre-hospital emergency care into a coordinated continuum of care. The position reports to the Emergency Room Nurse Specialist and runs on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

Key responsibilities

• Work with Ministry of Health and hospital partners to set up and follow up the ED programme, covering triage, patient flow, documentation, referral pathways and standardized emergency care.
• Contribute to national ED guidelines and SOPs, and monitor and evaluate emergency care delivery using monitoring tools.
• Train ED nurses through bedside teaching, mentorship and formal sessions on emergency nursing care.
• Help write ED rules, treatment guidelines, clinical pathways and quality indicators with ICRC specialists.
• Strengthen emergency preparedness by supporting competency frameworks, the Mass Casualty Incident Plan and simulation exercises.
• Coordinate emergency nursing events and participate in safety and violence prevention committees and technical working groups.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in nursing or higher, with a background in emergency departments and experience in teaching, training and capacity building.
• Minimum of 3 years of postgraduate specialized clinical experience, including work with a humanitarian organization in similar contexts and with local health authorities.
• Valid license to practice in Iraq.
• Fluent written and spoken English and Arabic.

Required skills

• Knowledge of clinical protocols and guidelines.
• Basic emergency care (BEC) trainer qualification and IITT Triage training are strong assets.
• Computer literacy with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
