Communications Clerk - National Consultant, Baghdad

About the role

UN Women Iraq Country Office (ICO) is recruiting a Communications Clerk as a National Consultant for a local post open to nationals of Iraq. The role reports to the Communications and Partnership Assistant, under the supervision of the Country Representative, and is partly embedded in the National Directorate for Iraqi Women (NDIW) to help formulate and implement communications and advocacy strategies that widen the Directorate's outreach.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development of a coherent communications and advocacy strategy, including gathering background information and drafting press releases, articles, key messages and other advocacy materials
• Organise roundtable discussions, press conferences and other publicity events, and prepare briefing materials and press releases
• Gather storylines and achievements, review translations, liaise with printers and suppliers, and maintain a library database of reference materials and photos
• Support the NDIW website and social media: gather content, update pages and channels, and maintain files, databases and systems
• Facilitate knowledge management and share best practices and lessons learned
• Organise trainings and workshops on communication practices and perform other duties as needed

Required profile

• Secondary education; a bachelor's degree in communications, public relations or journalism is desirable
• At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience supporting internal and external communications and advocacy strategies
• Experience with social media and digital communication
• Fluency in English and Arabic

Required skills

• Computer literacy and office software (MS Word, Excel)
• Web-based management systems; experience with a modern web-based ERP system, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable
• Video creation and production, good multimedia skills, and knowledge of social media and communication strategies

The position is office-based; field visits and travel may be required, with travel costs covered in line with UN rules.
