Civil Engineer - Concrete and Steel Structures

About the role

Wood is recruiting a full-time on-site Civil Engineer for its Iraq business unit in Basra, with travel requirements. The engineer carries out civil and structural engineering activities covering the analysis, design, verification and implementation of concrete and steel structures, reporting to the Lead Civil / Structural Engineer. The projects focus on flare system revamps, rehabilitation of aging assets, BTEX emission control, flare gas recovery and upgrade of obsolete equipment and piping and systems.

Key responsibilities

• Perform computer-aided and manual structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete and steel structures in line with Iraqi standards, codes and Eurocodes
• Analyse and design concrete foundations for buildings, equipment and industrial structures
• Prepare engineering calculations, reports, design documentation, Job Packs and material requisitions, and sign off drawings within delegated authority
• Produce Cost, Time and Resource estimates (CTRs) and attend technical meetings with the CSA Group and multidisciplinary teams
• Provide technical guidance, review and mentor junior engineers, and lead technical bid evaluations and tender support
• Carry out site surveys, field visits and inspections, and perform temporary replacement duties for absent colleagues
• Interface with clients, contractors, suppliers, vendors and regulators, and escalate high-risk technical issues to senior management

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in civil / structural engineering
• Professional-level knowledge of applicable codes, standards and Eurocodes
• Demonstrated competency in reinforced concrete and structural steel design
• Experience in FEED, detailed design, procurement support and technical bids
