Chief Accountant

About the role

The Chief Accountant will manage day‑to‑day accounting operations of the Erbil office, ensuring accurate records, timely closing, effective controls, cash and working‑capital management, and compliance with company and statutory requirements. The role supports the CFO in financial reporting, project costing, budgeting, audit, tax compliance and financial controls, with a focus on oil & gas operations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily accounting activities covering general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash/bank, inventory and fixed assets using Odoo ERP.
• Prepare monthly trial balance, profit & loss, balance sheet, cash‑flow reports and account schedules.
• Execute month‑end closing, recording accruals, provisions and adjustments, and perform bank, supplier, customer and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Maintain accurate accounting for oil & gas projects, monitor revenue, direct costs, overhead allocation and profitability, and produce project cost reports.
• Oversee the procure‑to‑pay process, approve supplier invoices, monitor customer invoicing, collections and ageing reports.
• Monitor daily cash and bank positions, prepare cash‑flow forecasts, manage petty‑cash controls and foreign‑currency transactions.
• Reconcile finance records with warehouse inventory, support physical counts and manage fixed‑asset additions, disposals and depreciation.
• Ensure compliance with Iraq/Kurdistan tax and statutory requirements, coordinate with external auditors and prepare audit schedules.
• Enforce internal controls, segregation of duties and adherence to company policies and delegation of authority.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing full‑cycle accounting in an oil & gas environment.
• Demonstrated ability to lead month‑end close and produce accurate financial statements.
• Familiarity with Iraqi/Kurdistan tax and statutory reporting obligations.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to allocate costs to projects and cost centres.
• Ability to collaborate closely with the CFO and cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Odoo ERP (or similar ERP system).
• Knowledge of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, inventory and fixed‑asset accounting.
• Understanding of project accounting and cost allocation.
• Familiarity with tax and statutory compliance in Iraq/Kurdistan.
• Ability to prepare cash‑flow forecasts and perform bank reconciliations.
