Backend Python Developer – GIS Platform

About the role

Enjaz's GIS Department is looking for a Backend Python Developer to design, build, and operate the services that power QiMAP, a national geospatial platform for smart‑card transactions. You will work on high‑throughput data pipelines, geospatial APIs, and secure, observable cloud services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain FastAPI endpoints, Django admin features and Kafka consumers/producers with full test coverage and type hints.
• Own PostgreSQL/PostGIS schema design, partitioning, indexing and query optimisation for tables with hundreds of millions of rows.
• Develop and evolve the event pipeline handling millions of payment and location events per day, including back‑pressure handling and re‑processing from S3 archives.
• Build geospatial capabilities such as MVT tile generation, geocoding, reverse‑geocoding, spatial search ranking and routing integration (OSRM).
• Implement security and privacy controls: pseudonymisation, vaulting of personal data, JWT/OIDC flows, HMAC‑signed webhooks and AWS Secrets Manager.
• Make services observable with structured logging, CloudWatch metrics, alarms and runbook documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of professional Python backend development, with production experience in FastAPI or Django.
• Strong SQL and PostgreSQL expertise, including indexing, query plans, migrations and performance tuning.
• Solid understanding of HTTP/REST API design, authentication (JWT, OAuth2/OIDC) and asynchronous Python (asyncio).
• Proficiency with Docker, Linux, Git PR‑based workflows and automated testing (pytest/Django test runner).
• Excellent written English; Arabic is a plus.
