Protection Officer (General) – Baquba, Iraq

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking a Protection Officer to join its team in Diyala province, Iraq. Reporting to the Protection Team Leader, you will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of protection services for displaced families, returnees, and host communities.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in day‑to‑day management of protection projects, ensuring compliance with DRC policies.
• Conduct protection assessments, case management, and community‑based protection activities, including violence‑against‑women and men interventions.
• Maintain accurate case data in trackers and databases, follow up on referrals, and contribute to regular reporting.
• Coordinate with government institutions, NGOs, and legal‑aid partners to ensure multi‑sectoral support for vulnerable populations.
• Provide coaching and technical guidance to Protection Assistants, including supervision of case management practices.
• Update service‑provider mapping and support cash‑for‑protection mechanisms.
• Carry out household visits, protection monitoring, and ensure confidentiality of all records.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in humanitarian protection, case management, or related fields.
• Strong understanding of gender‑based violence and community‑based protection approaches.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and maintain confidentiality.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in using protection data trackers and databases.
• Knowledge of protection monitoring tools and case management procedures.
