Chief Child Survival & Development (Fixed‑Term) – Baghdad

About the role

The Chief Child Survival & Development (CSD) will lead UNICEF Iraq’s efforts to improve child survival and development outcomes by integrating health, nutrition and WASH programming. Reporting to the Deputy Representative, the role provides strategic direction, technical leadership and cross‑sector collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the Child Survival portfolio, ensuring high technical quality across health, nutrition and WASH programmes.
• Set strategic direction and design programmes that address early childhood development and climate‑change impacts.
• Oversee programme planning, implementation, monitoring and results delivery.
• Mobilise and manage resources efficiently and support policy dialogue and system strengthening.
• Provide advisory services, advocacy, networking and partnership building.
• Drive innovation, knowledge management and capacity‑building initiatives.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in public health, nutrition, health policy/management, global health, environmental health sciences, water resources engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum eight years of professional experience in health, nutrition and/or WASH programmes for developing or middle‑income countries.
• Proven experience supervising teams.
• At least one year of experience working in humanitarian settings.
