Avionics Technician – Aircraft Maintenance

About the role

The Avionics Technician is responsible for maintaining aircraft electrical and avionics systems. This includes inspection, testing, troubleshooting, repair, modification, and certification of complex avionics components to ensure airworthiness.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, modify, and rewire aircraft electrical/avionics systems and subsystems.
• Interpret schematic diagrams, blueprint drawings, maintenance manuals, and factory publications.
• Utilize test equipment such as digital volt/amp meters, transponder ramp testers, fuel quantity testers, and ITT calibration test sets.
• Order parts and materials, maintain Plane Captain qualification, and operate ground support equipment.
• Identify and treat corrosion, perform aircraft jacking and hoisting, and certify/re‑certify altimeter and directional guidance systems.
• Conduct collateral duty inspections, maintain work‑center cleanliness, and comply with FOD, safety, and hazardous waste programs.

Required profile

• Completion of U.S. Armed Forces aircraft avionics school or equivalent training, or at least three years of relevant on‑the‑job experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license and ability to meet any additional government or company licensing requirements.

Required skills

• Aircraft electrical/avionics systems troubleshooting.
• Use of digital volt/amp meter, transponder ramp tester, fuel quantity tester, ITT calibration test set.
• Interpretation of schematics, blueprints, and maintenance manuals.
• Operation of ground support equipment, aircraft jacks, and hoists.
• Corrosion identification and treatment.
• Altimeter system certification and directional guidance calibration.
• Plane Captain qualification (OMAT2) and related licenses.
