Physiotherapist for Children with Special Needs

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Physiotherapist to join Kurdistan Save the Children in Sulaymaniyah. The role focuses on delivering physiotherapy and adaptive sports programs for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, supporting their physical development and well‑being.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive physical and functional assessments for child beneficiaries.
• Design and implement individualized physiotherapy and rehabilitation exercise plans.
• Lead daily structured group sports sessions using child‑centered, evidence‑based approaches.
• Provide inclusive sports and recreational activities that promote fitness, teamwork and self‑confidence.
• Apply manual therapy techniques and use adaptive sports and rehabilitation equipment as needed.
• Monitor progress, update therapy plans and maintain accurate records and reports.
• Train physiotherapy staff on appropriate exercises and best practices.
• Collaborate with psychologists, educators, caregivers and social workers for integrated support.
• Deliver health education sessions on physical activity and physiotherapy to caregivers and staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy; additional qualifications in Physical Education, Sports Science or Rehabilitation are a plus.
• Minimum two years of professional experience in physiotherapy, preferably with children with special needs.
• Familiarity with inclusive physical education, adaptive sports and rehabilitation methodologies.
• Fluency in Arabic (written and spoken); basic English proficiency is an asset.
• Experience in conflict‑affected or post‑conflict environments is preferred.
• Certification in First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain it shortly.
