Managing Director (MD) - Construction & Major Projects

About the role

Sumer Hills, part of Raban Al Safina Group, is seeking a Managing Director to lead its construction and contracting business. The role carries full executive responsibility for company strategy, financial performance, operations and organisational leadership, overseeing a substantial portfolio of independent, concurrent projects through the Director of Projects, project managers and functional heads.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute company strategy, business plans and financial targets, with accountability for P&L, sustainable growth and project profitability.
• Lead the senior management team, set responsibilities and performance standards, and strengthen organisational capability.
• Direct the overall project portfolio, aligning engineering, procurement, construction, commercial and support functions with company priorities.
• Integrate operational, logistical and administrative planning across multiple sites, allocating people, plant, materials and subcontractors effectively.
• Establish portfolio-wide governance for budgets, schedules, risk, quality, health, safety and environment, and drive recovery plans for delayed or underperforming projects.
• Oversee tendering, contract negotiations, variations, claims, cash flow, working capital and payment recovery.
• Lead strategic client and partner relationships, business development and executive reporting.
• Provide executive oversight of architectural quality, including luxury fit-out, interior and exterior finishes and external façade systems, covering material specifications, supplier selection and specialist subcontractor performance.

Required profile

• Proven executive leadership of a sizeable construction or contracting company, with company-wide accountability beyond individual project management.
• Demonstrated responsibility for P&L, commercial decisions, operational performance and organisational leadership.
• Direct experience delivering large-scale institutional buildings, especially schools, hospitals and university buildings or campuses, alongside major construction programmes or building megaprojects.
• Strong multi-project leadership, prioritisation and decision-making skills, able to oversee many independent projects simultaneously through project leadership teams.
• Sound technical understanding of civil, structural, architectural and building services interfaces.
• Demonstrated expertise in high-end finishing, luxury fit-out and façade systems, with strong judgment on material selection, vendor and subcontractor evaluation and quality standards for luxury buildings.

Preferred: a relevant engineering or construction management degree, advanced business or project management qualifications, and experience establishing portfolio controls.
