Junior Electrical Engineer - Desalination Plant

About the role

The Junior Electrical Engineer reports to the Electrical Engineer and the Electrical/Instrumentation Supervisor Engineer (and the Maintenance Manager) and provides hands-on support to the Basrah Desalination Plant maintenance team. The role covers upkeep of electrical equipment under the direct supervision of senior engineers, building the competencies needed for a full Electrical Engineer role in line with the Integrated Management System, O&M manuals and the O&M contract.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in assembling, installing, testing, monitoring, replacing and repairing electrical and control equipment
• Support maintenance and upgrades of electrical and electronic installations
• Carry out routine predictive and preventive maintenance tasks assigned by the supervisor
• Diagnose malfunctions using test equipment and hand tools, and test systems with ohmmeters, voltmeters and similar devices
• Record observations and suggest improvements to equipment reliability
• Assist Instrument/Mechanical Technicians, coordinate with subcontractors and complete work orders and spare part issuance documents
• Participate in investigations, draft basic reports, join the Permit to Work system and maintain housekeeping standards
• Follow company policies, take part in compulsory standby and overtime, and pursue on-the-job training toward full Electrical Engineer competency

Required profile

• Recognized Bachelor's degree or higher diploma in Electrical Engineering
• 0-2 years of relevant electrical maintenance experience; fresh graduates with strong academic results and relevant internships are encouraged to apply
• Exposure to desalination, power or water sectors, reverse osmosis/ultrafiltration projects, Gulf country experience or high-pressure environments is a plus
• Fluent written and spoken English

Required skills

• Basic operation of motors, valves, actuators and VSDs, and assistance with testing, dismantling and repair of electrical equipment
• Checking MCCs, testing wire continuity and assisting with calibration of on-line instruments such as flow meters and pH meters
• Reading and interpreting P&IDs, technical diagrams and electrical drawings
• Microsoft Office
