HSE Site Officer – Basra, Iraq

About the role

Wood is seeking an HSE Site Officer for its Iraq Business Unit, based in Basra. The role ensures that operations and maintenance activities comply with all relevant health, safety and environmental legislation and client requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure O&M activities are performed in strict compliance with applicable HSE laws, regulations and customer HSE requirements.
• Implement and monitor the Permit to Work system and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Maintain the Emergency Response Plan and support safety culture programs.
• Conduct regular safety checks, audits and verification activities on site.
• Enforce customer “Golden Rules” and other safety standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an HSE officer in the oil & gas sector, preferably on‑site.
• Strong knowledge of local HSE legislation and international best practices.
• Ability to work full‑time on‑site in Basra with occasional travel.
