Firefighter – Balad, Iraq

About the role

The Firefighter will operate under the supervision of Crew Chiefs at a DOD installation in Balad, Iraq, responding to a variety of emergencies and maintaining fire protection equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to fire, rescue, hazardous material, and medical emergencies, operating pumps, foam generators, turrets, and other firefighting tools.
• Maintain vehicles, equipment, tools, and protective clothing in serviceable condition and ensure emergency equipment meets NFPA standards.
• Conduct fire inspections, pre‑incident planning, and documentation; operate digital fire alarm and radio communications equipment.
• Perform administrative duties such as equipment accountability, maintenance scheduling, and sub‑ordinate coordination.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of fire‑fighter experience on a DOD installation.
• Must pass annual firefighter health exam, SCBA fit testing, and be available for recall.
• Ability to work in extreme climatic conditions, hazardous environments, and climb ladders while wearing PPE.
• Strong communication skills in English and ability to work with multinational staff and military officials.

Required skills

• IFSAC or Pro‑Board certifications: Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, Fire Fighter II, Airport Firefighter (ARFF), Driver Operator Pumper, Mobile Water Supply.
• Hazmat Technician Certification, CPR & First Aid Responder, Telecommunicator II.
• Proficiency with MS‑Word, MS‑Excel, and MS‑Outlook.
