Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer – EPC Project (Basra)

About the role

The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer will be based on‑site in Basra, Iraq, overseeing the installation, testing and pre‑commissioning of electrical and instrumentation systems for an EPC oil & gas construction project. The role ensures safe execution in line with approved drawings, project specifications, international standards and HSE requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and execute electrical installation activities including MV/LV systems, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, distribution panels, UPS systems and related power infrastructure.
• Manage cable tray installation, cable pulling, glanding, termination and testing in accordance with method statements and ITPs.
• Ensure proper earthing, grounding, lightning protection and installation of Ex‑rated equipment for hazardous areas.
• Oversee field instrumentation installation such as pressure, temperature, flow and level transmitters, control valves, analyzers, junction boxes and marshalling cabinets.
• Coordinate instrument tubing, impulse line works, supports, tagging and identification.
• Support loop checking, calibration, pre‑commissioning and commissioning activities with the commissioning team.
• Review technical documents (SLDs, wiring diagrams, hook‑up drawings, cable schedules) to guarantee accurate site execution.
• Collaborate with construction, QA/QC, engineering and subcontractor teams to resolve technical issues and maintain schedule.
• Participate in inspections, raise RFIs, assist punch‑list clearance and maintain as‑built records.
• Enforce HSE policies, conduct risk assessments and ensure safe work in live plant or hazardous areas.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or Instrumentation & Control Engineering.
• 7–10 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation installation on EPC oil & gas projects.
• Proven ability to work on‑site, supervise multidisciplinary teams and deliver projects safely and on schedule.

Required skills

• Interpretation of single line diagrams, wiring diagrams, hook‑up drawings and cable schedules.
• Knowledge of IEC, NEC and API standards.
• HSE risk assessment and compliance.
