Cost Accountant - Flexible Packaging

About the role

Almotakamila Flexible Packaging, based in Baghdad, Iraq, provides flexible packaging, printing and prepress solutions. It is looking for an experienced Cost Accountant for a full-time, on-site position in Baghdad. The role covers manufacturing costing, financial planning and operational efficiency, giving management clear insights for budgeting, pricing and profitability decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Calculate and analyse product costs across printing, lamination, slitting and pouch-making operations.
• Establish and maintain standard costs for raw materials, labour and manufacturing overheads.
• Monitor material consumption, production yields, scrap, waste and rework costs.
• Analyse differences between actual and standard costs, investigate causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Review bills of materials, production orders and inventory transactions to ensure accurate cost allocation.
• Support the valuation and reconciliation of raw materials, work in progress and finished goods.
• Prepare monthly cost reports, product profitability analyses and management reports.
• Support month-end closing and reconcile manufacturing cost records with financial accounts.
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, quotation preparation and pricing decisions.
• Work with production, procurement, warehouse and finance teams to improve cost accuracy and efficiency.
• Maintain costing data in the company's ERP system and support internal and external audits.

Required profile

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in cost accounting within the flexible packaging industry.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Practical understanding of flexible packaging materials and production processes.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality and professional integrity.
• Effective communication and coordination across operational and financial teams.

Required skills

• Manufacturing cost analysis, standard costing, overhead allocation and variance analysis.
• Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Preferred: hands-on experience with SAP, especially manufacturing costing and inventory, and a relevant professional accounting certification.
