Associate Dean – College of Health Sciences

About the role

The American University of Iraq, Baghdad (AUIB) seeks an experienced Associate Dean to drive academic excellence, research development, and operational leadership within the College of Health Sciences. Reporting to the Dean, the role will oversee faculty development, student success, accreditation, and strategic partnerships with healthcare institutions.

Key responsibilities

• Promote and support research activities, including planning, publication, and collaborations.
• Assist the Dean in leading academic and administrative functions across the college.
• Support faculty recruitment, development, evaluation, and workload planning.
• Monitor student academic performance, address concerns, and support retention and graduation requirements.
• Coordinate day‑to‑day academic operations, scheduling, policies, and internal processes.
• Contribute to strategic initiatives, represent the college on committees, and engage internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead accreditation processes and continuous quality improvement for all programs.
• Establish and manage partnerships with hospitals, ministries, and healthcare institutions to enhance clinical training and practicum opportunities.

Required profile

• PhD in a health sciences discipline, public health, healthcare management, medical education, or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of higher‑education experience, including academic administration and faculty leadership.
• Demonstrated expertise in academic leadership, curriculum development, and program evaluation.
• Strong understanding of research development, faculty support mechanisms, and scholarly output requirements.
• Extensive experience overseeing undergraduate and graduate programs and ensuring accreditation compliance.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
