Lead Field Artillery Instructor (MOS 13A) – Site Lead

About the role

The TAFT Lead Instructor will oversee the Artillery Officers Basic Training Course (AOBTC) in Iraq, managing all aspects of field artillery officer education and serving as the primary liaison between IDS, SATMO, OSC‑I, and Iraqi Ministry of Defense representatives.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and deliver the complete AOBTC curriculum, ensuring alignment with Performance Work Statement (PWS) standards.
• Design and administer written tests, practical exercises, command post drills, and field‑based assessments.
• Lead and supervise TAFT instructor teams, evaluate instructional performance, and coordinate daily teaching activities.
• Maintain high‑level communication with US and Iraqi stakeholders, providing regular training reports and status updates.
• Review, revise, and validate training material for doctrinal accuracy and accreditation.
• Provide formal student counseling, performance reviews, and targeted remediation.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in field artillery operations and officer training.
• Proven ability to manage large‑scale instructional programs and coordinate with multiple government and military partners.
• Strong understanding of artillery systems, fire support planning, and tactical employment.

Required skills

• Knowledge of 120mm mortar, M198, and M109A5 howitzer systems.
• Fire support planning and ballistic/gunnery principles.
• Call‑for‑fire methodologies and unit‑level artillery employment.
• Curriculum development and assessment design.
