About the role
The Danish Red Cross, German Red Cross and Norwegian Red Cross are seeking an experienced humanitarian leader to serve as Country Manager for the Iraq Joint Office in Baghdad. The role provides strategic leadership across all Joint Office activities, representing the collective engagement of the three National Societies and coordinating closely with the Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS).
Key responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Iraq Joint Office on behalf of the three Red Cross societies.
- Organise and facilitate Steering Committee meetings, develop presentations, and act as a bridge to bring in expertise from the partners as requested by IRCS.
- Maintain a cooperative working relationship with IRCS, offering guidance and support in strategic development, capacity building, quality assurance, management, reporting and finance.
- Ensure effective implementation of the Joint Office governance framework and collaboration mechanisms.
- Provide monthly updates to the Steering Committee and escalate decisions as needed.
- Promote a culture of coordination, principled action and needs‑based humanitarian response.
Required profile
- Extensive experience in senior humanitarian or development leadership, preferably in conflict‑affected settings.
- Proven ability to work with multiple international partners and national societies.
- Strong understanding of the humanitarian, economic, environmental and governance context in Iraq.
- Excellent strategic thinking, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
