Advanced Practitioner – Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner in Iraq

About the role

The Advanced Practitioner will work as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner delivering primary, urgent and initial emergency care to U.S. government employees and contractors in Iraq. The role combines direct patient care with leadership of the clinic team to ensure high‑quality, continuous medical services in a challenging environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee medical staff at a Department of State (DOS) healthcare clinic.
• Collaborate with on‑site physicians, other APPs and support staff to ensure seamless patient care.
• Assess and stabilize patients requiring urgent or emergent care.
• Provide comprehensive primary and continuing care for a wide range of health concerns.
• Deliver health promotion, disease prevention, patient education, physical examinations, vaccinations and STD testing.
• Manage simple chronic conditions through intermittent monitoring.
• Maintain compliance with site procedures, standards and mandatory training.
• Coordinate with medical evacuation teams for patients needing higher‑level care.
• Participate in mass casualty (MASCAL) exercises and other emergency drills.

Required profile

• Current certification as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP).
• Experience providing primary, urgent and initial emergency care in austere or remote settings.
• Proven ability to lead and manage a multidisciplinary clinic team.
• Willingness to work onsite in Iraq and adapt to security‑controlled environments.
• Commitment to ongoing education and compliance with all mandatory training requirements.
