Scaffolding Specialist

About the role

The Scaffolding Specialist will lead the safe planning, erection, inspection, maintenance and dismantling of scaffolding systems for the ROO Integrated Projects in Basra, Iraq. Working within an EPCm framework, the role ensures compliance with international and ROO standards while supporting project schedules and localization goals.

Key responsibilities

• Assess engineering drawings and method statements to determine scaffold type, layout, loads and access requirements; develop task plans and risk assessments.
• Lead on‑site erection, alteration and dismantling of scaffolding structures in accordance with project procedures and safety standards.
• Conduct routine inspections, tag structures as safe/unsafe, document maintenance actions and ensure corrective measures are taken.
• Enforce site safety rules, PPE use and permit‑to‑work processes; coordinate with HSE for incident reporting.
• Manage scaffolding materials, accessories and consumables, ensuring proper storage, traceability and return of equipment.
• Liaise with construction supervisors, engineers and subcontractors to align scaffold activities with project milestones.
• Identify and resolve technical issues related to scaffold design, load limits or access constraints, and recommend temporary works when needed.
• Maintain accurate records including daily logs, inspection reports, load calculations, as‑built drawings and compliance certifications.
• Provide on‑site coaching and mentorship to scaffold teams, supporting knowledge transfer and local workforce development.

Required profile

• Proven experience in planning, erecting, inspecting and dismantling scaffolding systems on EPC or large‑scale construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of international scaffolding standards, safety regulations and load‑bearing calculations.
• Ability to develop risk assessments and task plans based on engineering drawings.
• Excellent coordination skills to work with engineers, supervisors and subcontractors.
• Commitment to safety compliance and HSE procedures.
• Willingness to mentor local staff and contribute to workforce localization.
