Protection Assistant (General) – Iraq

About the role

Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader, the Protection Assistant supports the delivery of community‑based protection activities for internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities across multiple locations in Iraq. The role involves conducting participatory protection assessments, managing individual cases and providing psychosocial support.

Key responsibilities

• Identify individuals in need of protection and ensure timely response following DRC SOPs.
• Provide case management services, including intake, needs assessment, planning, follow‑up and closure.
• Document case information while respecting information‑management and confidentiality principles.
• Conduct mobile intake visits, referrals and regular follow‑up with beneficiaries.
• Facilitate community consultations and focus group discussions to capture protection concerns.
• Participate in supervision, coaching sessions and protection monitoring activities.
• Deliver awareness sessions using validated DRC materials and facilitation guides.

Required profile

• Experience in protection, case management or related humanitarian activities.
• Ability to work with diverse groups (youth, adults, older persons, persons with disabilities).
• Familiarity with DRC protection guidelines and standard operating procedures.
• Strong commitment to confidentiality and ethical handling of sensitive information.
• Willingness to travel to field locations for mobile intake and community engagement.
